Comments

What did you like most about this instructor and course?

  1. His field experience and support of the cohort/instructor.
  2. Instructor: Personable, knowledgeable (mispelled?), always professional and prepared. Course: short paper discussions, teaching logs, observations.
  3. I liked that this course focused primarily on our development as instructors and the readings and assignments contributed to that development.
  4. I really appreciated the continued support as we encountered challenges with our classes and/or the development of course content. I always felt supported and respected as an equal.
  5. I liked the time of day it is offered.
  6. I liked the accessibility and workshop feel of the course. It felt more like a valuable resource than a class.
  7. I like that Derek set an example for us as instructors by providing us with many different approaches to the same class. He also consistently encouraged our cohort to unify and lean on one another for support throughout the semester.
  8. Derek made certain that we were prepared for everything from preparing to teaching and gradeing and was available and supportive if ever we encountered classroom issues.
  9. The readings/choice of readings was excellent.

What did you dislike most about this instructor and course?

  1. Classroom management - some outspoken students take up too much time.
  2. Instructor: sometimes seems intimidating/short/unapproachable. Could be resting assassin face. Overall I guess I'm unsure if he likes or dislikes me, or whether or not my opinions are valued. Still a good guy regardless and I have nothing but respect.
  3. There were moments when the class meetings turned into venting sessions and it was difficult to refocus on moving forward.
  4. Some of the "fires" we had to put out could have been addressed to the instructor individually; I wish the instructor would have done a more efficient job re-directing straying conversations/discussions.
  5. The amount of reading and assignments in addition to the structure of the course.
  6. ---
  7. I found some of the concepts and examples for this course to be quite ambiguous, however. I became easily overwhelmed by too many options so this approach may have actually helped me make more defined decisions.
  8. That it only lasts one semester.
  9. Could have benefitted from more exchange/discussion among students of course materials to help us in developing them.

What constructive suggestions do you have for this instructor or course?

  1. ---
  2. Course: Less time with putting out fires. I feel like the time is often wasted and the same people talk every time. A lot of times, I felt like we didn't have to read because we all knew it wouldn't be discussed. I am not alone here as it was discussed quite often among the GAs.
Instructor: Could work on making due dates and being slightly more approachable (maybe). This might just be me, or my experience with your class this semester. It hasn't been an issue before.
  3. More structured work time on WRTG120 and 121 materials would be extremely helpful.
  4. I would have liked extra in-class work time to collaborate with my colleagues to develop materials and lesson plans.
  5. ---
  6. ---
  7. I think we needed more in-class work time, [illegible] curriculum building. I would have enjoyed more feedback from my cohort.
  8. None at this time.
  9. ---
