What did you like most about this instructor and course?

  1. Our conversations are always very good. Derek is a great discussion moderator and always have a lot of great insights. The assignments were really helpful, too.
  2. What I liked most was preparing my Ignite presentation. It was fun and relevant/helpful.
  3. I appreciated the way he explained everything and took the time to make sure we understood it.
  4. Derek was clearly knowledgeable about the subject and was very helpful and responsive throughout the course.
  5. Derek was very knowledgeable and caused all of us to rethink ideas we previously held. He mad us think critically and supported us along the way.
  6. Variety of assignments, great readings/class discussions that mapped to my interests.
  7. Assignments that are challenging in different ways from typical grad school assignments.
  8. Personable, kind, knows material, accessible.
  9. You do a great job of putting up with me. :)
  10. His openness and accessibility along with the wealth of knowledge he possesses. He always stimulates my thinking.

What did you dislike most about this instructor and course?

  1. Some of the activities at the beginning of the semester were I think less valuable than just a regular discussion.
  2. What I disliked most was how some (not all) of the readings didn't completely tie in to what we were learning.
  3. Some of the articles were a little boring, but even so he made them easier to understand once we met for class.
  4. --
  5. Nothing.
  6. Nothing comes to mind.
  7. Pizza only once. :)
  8. Less Skype. Would like to have used more technology.
  9. NA
  10. Snow days! Just kidding. Perhaps the book he used as the primary focus. I would have liked additional resources.

What constructive suggestions do you have for this instructor or course?

  1. Maybe more structure for the Writing Systems Project? I've had trouble connecting it to the readings.
  2. --
  3. None, he was the best instructor I've had in the grad program.
  4. Incorporate additional hands-on technology throughout the course - other than that, great instructor!
  5. None. I liked the course content, the teaching, and the instructor. Derek is one of the most intelligent people I have encountered in my college education and I am fortunate to have taken his course.
  6. --
  7. Maybe a little more time in class trying things out.
  8. So many missed days (snow/conference) perhaps make-up day.
  9. NA
  10. More resources instead of book, more time focusing on writing systems project and connecting it to classroom learning. Really, though, he made the best of the circumstances this semester.
